P90X3 is here!!

It's out! X3 is officially here!  I'm so excited, can you tell?  One of the first programs I ever did was P90X and I LOVED it!  I wish I still had my pics, because I saw some AMAZING results!  In fact, I loved the results I got so much that I would try to do another round over and over again, but each time I tried I would quit just as fast.  Want to know why?  The workouts were soooo long!  I just never could commit to that much workout time - I have waaay too much going on in my life.

Sound familiar??

Well guess what?  X3 is only 30 minutes a day!  Just like T25, you really can't argue your way out of that one in the mornings, right?

Here are the most common questions people have about P90X3:

What is muscle acceleration?
In P90X the focus was all about muscle confusion, which introduced a variety of workouts to keep the body from plateauing.  P90X2 is about muscle integration, which engages all of your muscles with every move to keep the body balanced.  Now with P90X3, we have muscle acceleration.  Studies have shown that the most dramatic changes in the body occur in the first 30 minutes of exercise. X3 is designed to maximize your time and keep every muscle challenged for a full 30 minutes without over-training any specific body part. Accelerated results - less time!

Do I need to do P90X and X2 first?
No!  This is not a graduate program - anyone can do it.  There are also modifications, so no matter what your fitness level is, you can totally do this program! :)

What equipment do I need?
Exercise bands will be all you need, and of course - your own bodyweight!  If you have a pull-up bar, medicine/stability balls, or a yoga mat, it will make your workouts more enjoyable, but as Tony Horton says, not necessary.

What should I expect from the workouts?
There are 16 different workouts in the base kit.  The workouts range from yoga and pilates, to weights and mixed martial arts.  Each workout is 30 minutes long, but they will push you hard.  As Tony says, "You don't get off easy, you just get to finish faster!"

How do I get it?
X3 will be released on my site, from there you have a couple of options.  There will be an introductory price of $180 vs $205 for the Challenge Pack, which includes the 90 day workout program, the nutrition guide, program manual, schedule, 30 day supply of Shakeology, free 30 day club membership, free shipping, and a discounted price when you get the package.  Or you can buy the program on it's own at $119.

Also, if X3 is purchased through me as your coach any time between December 10 - 31, you will receive an exclusive P90X3 baseball cap!

Go HERE and create your free account.  Hurry - these will sell out fast!

Fit Tip Tuesday - All Calories Are Not Created Equal

We've all heard the 'calories in - calories out' rule, right?  A lot of people think that as long as they are not going over their calories, they can eat whatever they want.  That might work okay at first, but when you don't get enough nutrients that your body needs, you will end up bingeing because your body is hungry.  Trust me - totally tried that.  You also get a TON more food when you choose healthier options, seriously.  Check this out:

If you were to simply count calories of foods on the shelf & compare that to the calories of clean meals, you could pick foods with the exact same numbers, but if you eat those foods versus the clean meals, you will arrive at completely different results.

There are more factors involved than a simple calorie deficit.  When you focus only on calories, you will end up with a lot of empty foods.  Many low calorie/fat foods have been stripped of any remaining nutrients and are filled with artificial nutrients, flavors and colors instead.

Even though you have lowered your calories, your body may not be able to realize that it's body fat you want to lose so the weight you lose may instead come from whatever source it can find, like healthy tissues and muscle.

So if you are wanting to lose fat, reshape your body or increase your athletic performance, you need to treat your body like the high-tech MACHINE that it is.

Remember to choose QUALITY over QUANTITY.

What kinds of foods should I eat?

Make sure you choose good sources of protein like skinless, white meat poultry (chicken/turkey), egg whites, fish/tuna, lean beef and ground turkey.  If you need extra help getting your protein in, protein powder is also a great source.

Complex carbohydrates like brown rice, sweet potatoes, oatmeal, and whole grains. (Read labels)

Fruits are a great choice and lots and lots of veggies!  I don't think anyone has ever gained weight by eating too much broccoli, right?  :)

Insane for the Holidays - Support Group

Well Halloween is over - Thanksgiving is 4 weeks away - how are your health and fitness goals coming along?  Are you on a sugar overload from all the candy and junk you ate over the weekend?  I know that I never want to SEE another piece of candy again...EVER! Ugh!

Did you spend the weekend looking like this??

I am happy to say I am back to drinking my lemon water and eating clean!! :)  I already feel so much better!  I went on a nice walk this morning too, before my kids left for school.  Tonight I will hit the weights. :)

Remember my Insane for the Holidays challenge group??  Well, we are a little over 30 days into the challenge and I am happy to say everyone is doing really great!  It has been hard to get up and get our workouts in when it is dark and the weather is getting colder.  But guess what??  They are doing it anyway!  I am so proud of my challengers for being honest about their struggles and helping to keep the group motivated.  I think it has helped me so much with my accountability & it's a great place to ask advice and share experiences.

Anyone is welcome to join - and if you are looking for a little extra help getting through the holiday season, we would love to have you join this group!

Just click here: https://www.facebook.com/beth.m.clark.7?ref=name#!/groups/410018609110106/ to join.  We still have 2 more months!

Insane for the Holidays - Accountability Journal

Okay, so I have not been so good at posting every day...I will try to do better in the future. :)

I did work out 4 days this week, the other 2 totally got away from me.  Note to self:  Make sure you get your workout in first thing in the morning, or you might not ever do it.  (Sigh)

Recap for the week -

Day 3:  P90X Shoulders & Arms

I really love this workout!  Well, I just really love shoulder and arm day in general.... the glamour muscles!! :)
It's a little hard for me to get into the groove with P90X, when I've been used to doing Body Beast.  They are so different!  The X goes a lot faster it seems like, and it's a little hard to decide what weight to use.  The exercises go like this - shoulders, biceps, triceps - and then you repeat the same thing one more time.  Some of the people are doing 15 reps, some are doing only 8 with heavier weights.  I feel a little rushed sometimes and then the music just ends... so I guess I need to go faster.  I just didn't feel like I totally worked my muscles to fatigue like I did with Body Beast.

I'm thinking next time I will go really heavy and try to do only 10 reps.  Really slow and really heavy.  I feel the high rep thing doesn't work very well for me - I NEED to be sore the next day!! haha :)

Day 4:  Insanity Plyometric Cardio

Totally skipped this.  Dang!  I was super busy all day with hair appointments, grocery shopping, and football games.  However, NO EXCUSES next time - I will make sure to get up earlier. :)

Day 5:  Body Beast Build: Legs

Oooooh I love/hate leg day!  I think Body Beast has much better leg workouts than P90X.  The main difference is that P90X uses a lot of body weight exercises.  Which is totally fine, but if you have ever looked at before & afters of P90X, the results are more upper body and abs.  Sorry, just my opinion, don't hate me. :)

Body Beast has tons of squats, lunges and those killer step-ups - all with heavy weights!  My legs are literally shaking when I finish this workout.  When I did my first round of the Beast, I noticed my legs changing first - LOVE that!

I also like that at the end of every Body Beast workout, you get a little abs too.  Bonus!

Week Review:

Well, I am still trying to get back into my groove.  I hate when I just totally stop working out, because my diet goes down the tubes, and then it is way hard to get back into good habits.  I usually start out great the first half of the week, then my husband has Thursdays off work, so it feels like a weekend to me.  Friday I can usually get it back together, but then it really IS the weekend - and I eat like crap!  Yep, I totally just admitted that.  It's hard - I'm not perfect.  I don't know that I ever will be, I'm just hoping to get into more of an 80/20 balance, you know?

It's a process, I WILL get there!  I am already doing so much better than I have in the past.  I'm stronger, I know what works and what doesn't for my body, and I have all the tools I need to reach my goals.  I just need to be strong, committed, and not throw in the towel when I mess up a little.

If you are going through the same things I am, and would like some support in your journey - I would love for you to join me!  We can help and motivate eachother!  I absolutely LOVE to see people reach their goals and find the happiness and energy that comes with getting healthier!

Insane for the Holidays - Accountability Journal

Day 2:  Insanity Pure Cardio

Man, oh man - I love this workout!  I know most people HATE it, it's really hard!  I think why I like it so much is because you never repeat the exercises.  Which is good, because if there is something I don't like very much... I can do it and move on, thank you! haha :)

I love how super sweaty I get with Insanity, too! I am literally DRIPPING - I know...gross.  But hey, we're talking WORKING OUT here, not going to the Oscars.

I was soooo sore from yesterday's workout - my entire upper body hurts so good!  I also never realized how effective pushups are for your core muscles.  Every time I laugh today I can definitely feel how sore my abs are.  OUCH!

My diet was a little better today, still not back in the groove with eating every few hours, but my choices are a lot better.  Still didn't drink my gallon of water. grrrr :(

I'm going to be taking some new 'before' pics tomorrow along with my weight and measurements to help keep me on track.

Have a great day everyone! :)

Insane for the Holidays - Accountability Journal

Okay, for those of you who don't know - I started an Insane for the Holidays Facebook group to keep everyone motivated over the upcoming holidays.

I have to admit....so far, I have not been doing so well.  My workouts are okay, but I have been skipping here and there.  I have been having some trouble with my energy levels, motivation and the fact that it's been soooo hard to lose weight, no matter what I do.  Well, the other day I had some blood tests done and sure enough, my thyroid is underactive.  So hopefully with some medication, I will start to feel a little better and be able to get back to my old self.

Anyway, I decided I needed a little extra motivation.  I am going to blog about my workouts during this holiday season, so I can be more accountable and maybe even help someone who has trouble sticking to their goals over the winter like I do.

My workout schedule I came up with is going to be really fun!!  It's a hybrid of P90X, Insanity, TurboFire, Body Beast, and T25.  Kind of an I-love-all-these-programs-I-can't-decide hybrid.  Crazy, right?  I KNOW I can't get bored with that! haha :)

This schedule finishes the week of Thanksgiving - not sure how that's gonna go. haha  Then, I will decide what to do during Decamber.  I am planning on getting P90X3 for Christmas!!  So excited! :)

Okay, now for my Journal.....
Day 1:  P90X Chest & Back
I haven't done the X in a loooong time.  Years even.  So it was kind of fun to have something new again.  I will admit I did ALL the pushups on my knees, except for the incline pushups, but my arms barely moved on those, so it was more like incline PLANK! haha

I still cannot do those darn dive bombers!!  I basically just did downward dog to plank over and over.  I also use the black bands for all my pull ups - Still a great workout I must say!

My diet was not the best, and I didn't even count my calories... must do better tomorrow!  Drank 1/2 gallon of water.... need to do better on that, too.

Well, that's pretty much it for today.  If you have any questions about any of the Beachbody programs, the hybrid I'm doing, or if you want to join the group - please feel free to contact me.  I would love to hear from you.

INSANE for the Holidays! 60-day Challenge

Guess what?  We only have a couple months until Thanksgiving!  Does that scare you?  It totally scares me! :o  haha

If you are anything like me, you are pretty good about eating healthy and working out from about spring - fall, then totally hibernate over the winter.  It never fails!  I think maybe it's that it's cold and dark outside, or maybe it's all the baking and yummy fall smells.  The holiday parties definitely add to it.  I can probably think of a million excuses why I tend to gain weight over the holidays, but that is just what they are - EXCUSES!!

Well - NOT THIS YEAR!  For those of you that have been following my blog, you know that when I started my first challenge group in the spring, I made a goal that I would complete 3 Beachbody programs before the end of the year.  Well.....I have one more program to go!!

My first program was Body Beast - LOVED it!  This week I will complete T25 - loved that too! :)  And the program I have chosen to push me to my goal by the end of the year is ...... INSANITY!!!

The first time I did Insanity, I made it to the last week and then QUIT!  WHAT?!?  I was seeing such great results, too. :(

My sister did a round of Insanity in the spring & also had great results, so I have been wanting to totally CRUSH it for round 2!  (I also really want my Insanity t-shirt!)

This is the perfect program for me right now because it delivers amazing results, it's short, and did I mention you get amazing results?

What better way to motivate you to stay healthy over the holidays?  You could be tightening your belt when everyone else is loosening theirs, right?  Let's not drown ourselves in baggy sweats this winter!

Who is with me?

Grab a buddy and JOIN ME!!  You don't have to do Insanity, any program will do.

Fuel Your Body Friday - Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Chili

This is a great recipe for fall!  It's football season again and the weather is getting a little cooler, so what better way to spice it up than with a little chili??  I made this and put it on my food blog about a year and a half ago, and when I was going through all my recipes to find the "clean" ones, I realized this would be a perfect one to add to my list.

So go and whip up a batch for your meals next week - I promise you won't regret it!

Fuel Your Body Friday - Stuffed Avocados

I saw this recipe on Muscle & Fitness Hers, and it looks soooo good!  I love avocados!  I think I would leave out the orange slices, though - I have a thing about fruit and veggies together - ugh!  I can't do the strawberries in a salad either.  I know - I'm weird like that. :)

Ingredients:
1 medium avocado
3 oz can tuna, drained
1/4 cup each - green pepper, red onion and cucumber, diced
1/3 cup nonfat greek yogurt, plain
1 tsp dijon mustard
1 tsp lemon juice
1/4 tsp sea salt
1 pkt Truvia sweetener
1/4 cup fresh orange sections, diced

Directions:
Slice avocado in half lengthwise, remove pit.  Scoop out the center, leaving 1/4 inch of avocado all around.  Put scooped out avocado into a bowl, add all ingredients except orange sections.  Mix all ingredients until well blended.  Carefully stir in oranges.  Scoop half the mix into each avocado.

Put in refrigerator for 10 minutes to chill slightly.

Easy to grab and go!  Yummy!

(This has a lot of calories - about 470, so I would maybe only eat 1/2 at a time.)

Why Is Shakeology So Expensive??

Do you think Shakeology is expensive?? Do you know that it has over 70 super foods in each glass, keeps blood sugar steady, supports brain function, helps build and repair muscles, improves digestion and regularity, and boosts the immune system?

For only $4 a day AND a bottom-of-the-bag, money-back guarantee - it's soooo much cheaper than going to the doctor!!!

I think Shakeology is so healthy and beneficial that I even give it to my kids.  I have a 3 year-old that is such a picky eater some days I wonder if she gets any nutrients in that growing body.  At least with Shakeology I know that she will get her vegetables and some good protein in!!  Her tummy works great & she hardly ever gets sick.  Much better than the crap they advertise as healthy for kids - just sayin'....

If you want to know more about Shakeology or to order some, feel free to contact me.

Fuel Your Body Friday - Chunky Monkey Shakeology

Here is my new favorite recipe.... I know I say that about every Shakeology recipe, but in the summer it is so hard for me to stay away from ice cream - it's my nemesis!  So I usually like to make a double batch of "fake ice cream" or this chunky monkey Shakeology and freeze in a couple smaller containers to eat when I am craving dessert.

Chunky Monkey Shakeology

1 scoop Vanilla Shakeology
1 cup almond milk
1 frozen chopped banana

1 TBS all-natural peanut butter
1 TBS coarsely chopped raw walnuts

1 TBS mini chocolate chips

For a shake - blend all together and drink.

For ice cream - blend Shakeo, milk, peanut butter and banana together, then stir in nuts and chocolate chips.  Freeze it for awhile and then eat it like ice cream! It satisfies my ice cream cravings. :)

TurboFire/Body Beast Hybrid

Okay, so here is the hybrid schedule I came up with for TurboFire and Body Beast.  I actually did this schedule for awhile after I completed Body Beast because I think for women, Body Beast needs a little extra cardio.  Unless you are super skinny and want to put on muscle, then Body Beast is great all by itself.  If you are trying to burn fat, you want a combination of HIIT, cardio and weights.  Enter the HYBRID:

The first schedule is advanced - it incorporates both program schedules, therefore, you will be doing two workouts most days.  I like to do the cardio in the mornings on an empty stomach, and weights in the evening.  I love crashing into bed at night with my muscles feeling like Jell-O. haha  Just make sure you take glutamine or have a really good recovery drink. :)

The second is more of a beginner schedule - you will do Body Beast 3 days a week and TurboFire on the alternate days.  Much less intense and time-consuming, but still very effective.

I tried to just copy the schedules right on here, but they were too big & I'm not very good at this stuff, so I just made a PDF file.

Remember - for the month of August, both of these programs are sold in a special pack along with a bag of Shakeology for only $160 each!!!  Get them now, they would make great Christmas presents! :)

Fuel Your Body Friday - Veggie Chicken Pitas

These Veggie Chicken Pitas were sooo good!  My picky-eater even asked for seconds. :)  It is an easy dish to throw together at the last minute & great for eating clean.  I could have easily eaten this plain, or even with a little brown rice.  YUM!

Ingredients:
1/2 - 1 red onion, sliced
1 cup fresh broccoli, chopped
1 cup julienned carrots
1/2 tsp minced garlic
2 TBS olive oil
1 cup cooked chicken, shredded
1 jar roasted red pepper, drained & chopped (I left this out & it was still delicious)
1/2 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
1/4 - 1/2 cup chicken broth
2/3 cup shredded cheese (I used a mexican blend)

Directions:
Cook chicken ahead of time & shred.  Chop all ingredients.

Saute onions, carrots, broccoli, and garlic in oil for a few minutes until tender.

Stir in cooked chicken, peppers, broth and spices.  Bring to a boil, then reduce heat & simmer uncovered for about 5 minutes or until heated through.

Once heated, mix in cheese and stir until evenly coated.  Spoon into pitas - enjoy!

*Note:  Next time I would double this recipe.  It barely fed my husband, myself and our 3 (pretty big) boys.

I have both of these programs and let me tell you, they are totally worth adding to your workout library!

TurboFire - this program is by the amazing, bubbly, Turbo QUEEN herself - Chalene Johnson!

What is TurboFire

TurboFire is a crazy-intense and crazy-fun cardio program designed to help you get  a leaner, sexier body—fast! This 90-day program is packed with kickboxing drills, aerobic exercises, and intense intervals perfectly choreographed to the hottest music, so you stay motivated to push hard and get awesome results. Award-winning fitness expert Chalene Johnson (creator of other successful programs like Turbo Jam® and ChaLEAN Extreme®) is with you every step of the way, until you’re hooked on the adrenaline high, burning tons of calories, and shedding those extra pounds.

Why is it effective?

The science behind TurboFire is High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)—also known as "Fire Drills"—where you can burn up to 9x more fat and calories than with traditional cardio. HIIT means working out at your max in up to 1-minute intervals, followed by a short rest. This is the kind of athletic training that top athletes do to get in amazing shape, because it ignites the AfterBurn Effect, where your body continues to burn calories long after your workout is over. Just 4 minutes of HIIT can be more effective than 30 to 45 minutes on a treadmill or stair-climber. The workouts are tough, but there’s always a modifier, and Chalene even includes low-impact classes so you can still get incredible results without jumping.

TurboFire is so much fun, you literally forget you are working out!  The music is awesome and Chalene is so upbeat - it's over before you know it.  Plus it burns a TON of calories.  Seriously.  Try wearing a heart-rate monitor while doing TurboFire...CRAZY!!
Now, on to THE BEAST!!

If you are a guy, you will STILL love this program!  My teenage boys and husband are doing it right now and are gaining some serious muscle.
